Data Archiving

Data Archiving refers to the moving of application data that is no longer needed in everyday business
processes - but that has to be kept for business or legal reasons from the online database of the SAP system to an external storage area to free up space on the database.

Data Archiving in SAP ensures that all of the information belonging to a business object
is written to an archive file and deleted from the database.

The archived data can still be read. Archived data cannot be changed and loaded back in Database
